And so I headed off up the side of the valley. The first few miles of the trail were through dense forest. I was expecting this bit to be fairly shady and cool, but it turned out to be stifling and very, very hot. It was a relief to break out of the trees and into the open at the the St. Christophe church (1,583m). Here’s the view from in front of the church...
