Finally, an honourable mention to our trusty hire car, which propelled us up and down the mountains all week with an almost complete absence of gusto. It was comfy and quiet, but it's a long time since I've driven a car that wouldn't go up a modest incline without the need to drop a gear or two.
Considering that the weather forecast in Meribel when we arrived was for six days of rain, we did extremely well to only get rained on once during our time there. Our hotel was spectacularly fabulous, the scenery and walking were excellent and I can't for the life of me understand why there were so few people about. Still, it made for a super peaceful and relaxing week for us.
