As usual, we decided to cross the Channel on the train. Our original plan was to cross on Saturday morning, but as it was almost £100 cheaper to get a late train on Friday evening, we thought we’d do that instead and overnight in Calais. Unfortunately the day we travelled was the day of the thwarted bomb attacks in London, so security at the Tunnel was tight with all cars being checked individually. Consequently it was 0230 before we got to our hotel. Doh!
