I carried on up the trail for a few hundred yards more, to the point where I was permitted to travel no further. Here all of the hiking trail signs pointed back the way I'd come. Ahead was an alpine trail. To proceed beyond this point you need to be equipped with ropes and crampons and know how to climb and traverse a glacier. Basically none of the things I had/can do. It was time to turn back.
Confusingly, this point is actually called Fluealp. Unlike the restaurant Fluealp, which is actually in a place called Flue.
