Monday. We had the genius idea to get the train up to Gornergrat (10,132 feet) and walk back down to Zermat (5,314 feet). You can see the railway winding its way to the hotel-under-construction at Gornergrat. It takes around 45 minutes to get there from Zermatt. It turns out that walking 5,000 feet downhill is harder than we had imagined, although presumably it’s nowhere near as hard as walking 5,000 feet uphill.
