In the distance I can see Gornergrat, with the cablecar station at Hohtalli off to the left.
An hour-and-a-bit later, after a more arduous uphill slog than I had anticipated, I arrived at Rotenboden (2,815m). I got the train down to Riffelalp (2,211m), where I had the genius idea of walking back down to Zermatt (1,620m).
I think it would be fair to say that I was well shattered when I got back to the chalet that evening.
