On the drive back to Nanaimo we see a couple more bears just walking by the road (one just a few hundred yards after we’ve stopped to have a look at a lake - yikes!). If you want to see bears in the wild, this really is a very good place to come.
The rest of the drive to Nanaimo is uneventfully pleasant. It’s pouring with rain for the first hour of the ferry journey. When the rain stops, I pop outside to take a few photos. This picture of the sky behind us gives an indication as to why the weather has been so bad. The sky just above the horizon is positively black.
