Aletsch Glacier

After about an hour of steady climbing, I make it up to the ridge and get my first view of the stunning Aletsch glacier. I’ve taken photos of it because, well, you have to. But they just don’t do it justice because the scale of the thing is so mind-bending. The ice is about three quarters of a mile wide and the mountains that you can see in the distance are six or seven miles away.

This is definitely one of the most amazing sights I have ever had the pleasure to experience in my entire life. If you are ever find yourself in the region of Bettmeralp, I very strongly urge you to take a couple of hours out of your day to get the cablecar up to the Bettmeralp Bergstation and see this. You won’t regret it. Unless the weather is rubbish, but that’ll be obvious from the bottom anyway.

I slowly make my way along the ridge towards the Bettmeralp Bergstation, stopping frequently to look at the view and take photos that completely fail to capture the magnificence of the glacier.
