As it’s only about 40 miles to Bettmeralp we decide to do a bit of sightseeing along the way and make a slight detour up the Saas Valley (Saastal) to Saas Grund. We visited Saas Grund a couple of years ago when we were staying in nearby Saas Fee, but there was a lot of low cloud on that day and we didn’t get to see much, so this lovely, clear day seemed like an excellent time to go back.
Zermatt is in the next valley over and we would have dearly loved to pop in there for some lunch, what with it being one of our favourite holiday destinations. However, the purpose of this holiday was to see new places, not to revisit places we already know well.
