Glera Power Station

About 20 minutes walk from the centre of town, there's a small gorge that hides a tiny power station - the building you can see in this picture. In 1921 the locals dammed the head of the gorge to create a lake that they could use as a source of hydroelectric power. For some reason, they turned it off in 1960. But it was rebuilt in 2004 to celebrate the centenary of electricity production in Iceland and now produces 290KW of electricity.
