Back in Ribeiro Frio, we head off on one of the other walks. This time we're walking along a properly maintained (and brand new looking) levada. There are apparently hundreds of miles of these all over Madeira and they offer some excellent walking opportunities into areas that would otherwise be largely inaccessible. Although they offer a flat trail in an otherwise extremely hilly environment, the walking challenges can be variable. In this photo you can see that the trail is wide.
