This is the view looking towards Funchal from the front of the church. The blokes in white you can see loitering around are the toboggan "drivers". The toboggans are effectively benches on wooden skis that tourists ride down the hill, presumably all the way back to Funchal. As tempted as I was to have a go, we'd bought a return ticket on the cablecar, which it seemed a shame to waste. Plus, given that they toboggan down the public roads, it looked mentally dangerous.
