I take a short, scenic detour, which turns out to be a fairly bonkers, near vertical ascent on a switchback trail, 150m (~500 feet) straight up the side of the valley. Being on the north side of the valley, the trail is in perpetual shade, wet and slippery. So it's a relief to get to the top and be presented with the fabulous view you can see above, looking further into the valley that I'm walking along.
