Eventually we made it to Maligne Lake, which, as you can see, was pretty snowy.
On the 45 minute drive to the lake we had seen two cars, one snow plough and, remarkably, a bloke on a bicycle! On the 45 minute drive back to the hotel we saw no vehicles at all and one elk, which we nearly ran over because it was standing in the middle of the road at the bottom of a hill. I was only doing about 35-40mph when I saw the elk a couple of hundred yards away, but I’d only managed to slow the car down by about 15mph by the time we’d reached the spot the elk would have been standing in if it hadn’t conveniently stepped off the road a few seconds earlier.
