A long weekend at a Center Parcs on the North Sea coast in December was always likely to be a bit hit and miss. The fact that I had a stinking cold didn’t help. It also turned out to be a lesson in not putting too much faith in GPS navigation. Judith’s car happily directed us to what turned out to be a foot ferry for the crossing of the Westerschelde from Het Heem to Vlissingen. We then used our (several years old) map of Europe to make our way the 33 miles to Hontenisse for the car ferry, which, it turned out, had been replaced with a super new tunnel at Terneuzen some years earlier.
The moral of the story seems to be, whatever form of mapping you use, make sure it’s up-to-date.
