Burley An entertaining afternoon was spent at the Burley Apple Pressing Weekend. And a few lovely glasses of cider were drunk too.All of the photos in this gallery were taken using the Camera+ application on my iPhone.
Apples Now that is a lot of apples. And they all need pressing.
Resting Well they're not going to get pressed by standing about drinking a glass of lovely cider.
Automatic Press Or maybe they will if you've got one of these. Here's a steam engine being used to drive the mechanism that presses the apples.
Manual Press Here's a guy doing the pressing manually. I reckon that would keep you fairly fit.
Little A tiny steam engine. I say "tiny". It was still about four feet long and probably weighs two or three times as much as I do.
And Large Now that's what I call a steam traction engine.
Saw And it was beign used to drive a ferocious looking circular saw. To prove it’s working, they’re accumulating a pile of planks nearby.
Saw 2 Here's another engine being used to power a much more rhudimentary circular saw. Surprisingly no-one appeared to lose any major bodyparts whilst playing with this contraption.
Pressing The guy with the manual press is still hard at it. That pile of apples doesn't appear to be getting noticeably smaller though.
Up on the Hill A view of the whole event from up on the adjacent hill. This was quite late in the afternoon, so I reckon a lot of people had gone home by this point.
